This character is based on Ganymede from Greek Mythology, so a little history is in order, I think.
Basically, Ganymede was such a beautiful young man that Zeus came down from Mount Olympus and stole him away to be his cupbearer. It's also rumoured that Ganymede was one of Zeus's lovers.
Anywho, my version of him is that he's been treated badly all of his life, so much so that pain becomes normal to him and also enjoyable.
